Hi there,

I'm currently evaluating CloudBerry Online Backup as our offsite backup plan. I have installed the trial and have got a backup plan working, everything I've seen so far I liked. My only concern is that the backup plan/storage seems to be tied to the machine which is doing the backups to the S3 cloud. I installed the same trial version of software on a different machine and connected to our S3 account but I couldn't see any of the backup files. In case there were a fire or similar disaster and the local machine with CloudBerry installed on it were destroyed, am I able to and how could I do a restore from S3 to a new machine? This is pretty much a make or break question.
Cheers!

Tosh.

Hi Tosh,

You have to run "Synchronize Repository" to sync S3 storage data with the local repository. The Online Backup uses its own local repository for storing history details and a list of backed up files (it improves working with S3 storage and reduced number of requests). Go to Tools | Advanced: click "Synchronize Repository", select a right S3 account to sync. When sync complete, you will see the files on Backup Storage view and will be able to restore them.

Thanks,

Hi Juli,

I am in the same situation as Tosh. I am evaluating ONline backup server, and need to be able to restore files from another computer in case the computer being backed up dies. I found that after running "Synchronize Repository", I still don't see the correct backup files. This is because the computer names are different. For example, if the computer being backed up is called "SERVER" and the computer I want to use to restore the files is called "COMPUTERA", when I perform the "Sync Repository" on COMPUTERA, I do not see the files that were backed up from SERVER. I think this is because the program is looking in the "CBB_COMPUTERA" folder in my S3 bucket, when the backed up files reside instead in folder "CBB_SERVER". Is there any way to get Cloudberry Backup to restore the files in "CBB_SERVER" while running on a computer other than SERVER?

Thanks,
Edward

Hi Edward,

In order to see the files from "CBB_SERVER" you should have a proper backup prefix (= "SERVER") for the S3 account. Go to File | Amazon S3 Account... | Edit S3 account (or Add new): click "Advanced settings" to set a backup prefix (Note: it goes without "CBB_", just "SERVER").

Please let me know if it didn't help.

Thanks,

Hi Juli,

Thanks, your solution worked! I didn't notice the Advanced Settings...
