How to Sign Up for Google Nearline Storage

This post explains how to get started with Google Nearline Storage and prepare your Service Account to authenticate your application.

Getting Started with Google Nearline Storage

1. Go to and click on the Start your free trial button.Google Cloud Storage welcome screen2.  Complete the registration form.Google Cloud Platform registration formOnce the registration form is complete, click Accept and start free trial.Accept Google Cloud TermsIn the next screen, you will be prompted to create a new project. All data in Google Cloud Storage belongs inside a project. A project consists of a set of users, a set of APIs, billing, authentication, and monitoring settings for those APIs. You can have one project or multiple projects.

3. Give your project a name and click Create.Create a new Google Cloud project4. Once the new project is created you will be able to create your first storage bucket inside this project. Just click Create a bucket. Create Google Storage Bucket5. Specify the bucket name, location and select the Nearline option from the "Storage class" drop-down list.


Note: Buckets belong to the particular project and cannot be shared among projects. There is no limit on the number of buckets that you can create in a project.

Preparing Service Account

Google Cloud lets you use service accounts to authenticate your application. A service account's credentials include a generated email address that is unique, a client ID, and at least one public/private key pair.

1. Go to and use your Google credentials to log in.Login To Google Cloud2. Once logged in, select your project from the drop-down project list.Select a Project

Note:  If you do not have any projects yet, you can quickly create one by clicking the Create Project button.

ProjectsAnd then just specify the project name and click Create.New Project Form3. In the Projects Dashboard, expand the APIs & auth menu in the left sidebar and select Credentials option. Then click on the Create new Client ID button.OAuth Credentials Creation4. In the Create Client ID window, choose Service account and select P12 Key. Then click Create Client ID button.Create Client IDThis will generate a private key and download it to your machine as a text file. Once it is done, you will see the following message:messageIn addition to the mentioned file, the service account information will also be displayed in the Projects Dashboard.Google Projects DAshboard Service accountNow you are ready to go with your Google Nearline Storage account that can be used with the CloudBerry Lab products.
