CloudBerry™ Announces the Release of CloudBerry Backup 5.8 with Ransomware Protection

CloudBerry Backup Now Protects Existing Backups When Ransomware Is Detected

New York, NY – November 27, 2017 – The team at CloudBerry™ is excited to announce the latest release of their flagship product, CloudBerry Backup 5.8; now with ransomware protection. Ransomware attacks have become more prevalent this year, with victims losing access to critical business and personal data. CloudBerry is committed to security, and this update protects a customer’s good backups when ransomware is detected.

“Customers are rightfully concerned about malware infections like ransomware,” says David Gugick, VP Product Management at CloudBerry. “When we speak with customers, one of their biggest concerns is maintaining the availability of existing backups after an infection. No customer wants to be in a position where they feel the need to pay a ransom to get their critical data restored because good backups are not available for restore. Our latest release of CloudBerry Backup 5.8 protects existing backups so customers are better positioned to be able to restore their important files.”

Seeing an obvious need for backup security, CloudBerry committed to adding features to protect customers from ransomware. Gugick goes on to say, “In a recently conducted survey of IT personnel, we learned that only about half of those surveyed who were affected by ransomware were able to successfully recover their data. That number should be much closer to 100% and our goal with this new release is to move the needle in that direction. CloudBerry Backup 5.8 gives users the ability to protect their backups in the cloud. In the event of a ransomware attack, users now have the assurance that previous backups will be available, regardless of file retention settings, so important files can be restored.”
